This is an image of M101 - The pinwheel Galaxy in the constellation of Ursa Major. Although, this is a relatively bright galaxy it is quite large and makes it difficult to image because it has a low overall surface brightness. The image was captured on the 9th April 2006 at 01:22 using my SC3 and MN56 and represents the sum of 100 X 30 sec exposures (total 50 mins exposure) - A light pollution filter and a IR Blocking filter were used. The moon was relatively close by at 80% phase which made the image even harder to capture. |
